Rank in every townyou actually cover.
You work across a county. Google, left to itself, will only ever show you in the town your address is in. Fixing that is the single highest-return piece of search work most trade businesses can do.
You are invisible three towns over, where half your work comes from.
A customer twenty minutes away searches for a plumber in their own town. Google shows them businesses with an address there. You drive to that town every week, and you do not appear at all.
The fix is not a trick. It is giving Google a genuine, substantial page about the work you do in that specific place — and doing it for each town worth having. Every one of those pages is real work, which is why they are quoted per page rather than bundled in.

How many area pages do I need?
As many towns as you genuinely want work from, in priority order. Most trade businesses start with three to five and add more as each one starts producing. There is no benefit to publishing thirty thin pages at once, and there is a real risk in it.
Are area pages included in a website build?
No, they are quoted per page. Each one is genuine content about the work you do in that place, and pretending otherwise would either mean charging everyone for coverage they do not need or writing pages that are too thin to rank.
Can I rank in a town I have no address in?
Yes, in the organic results, with a proper page about the work you do there. The map results are different — those are weighted heavily by physical proximity, and no honest provider can promise you a map listing in a town you have no presence in.
How long does local SEO take?
The Google Business Profile work often shows movement within a few weeks. Area pages take longer — usually 60 to 90 days to settle — and they keep improving as the site earns more trust overall.
